Digi 001 Drivers For Mac

The Digidesign Digi 001 is the original audio interface for Pro Tools. I don't know the year that this was first released, but it's definitely been a while now. The main reason that the Digi 001 is no longer really a viable option is because it's not Firewire or USB, but connects to your computer via a. The MIDI ports on the Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, and Digi 001 can be used with the ASIO Driver 6.1.1. Q: Is there a Mac OS X version of the Digidesign ASIO Driver? The Digidesign Core Audio Driver is used on Mac OS X. Also, in a joint collaboration with Propellerhead Software, Digidesign has added Rewire 2 support with all Pro Tools 6.1. Speaking of Steinberg, they now have ASIO drivers that work with the new Digi 001 system. These drivers allow the Digidesign hardware interface to be used as a front end for your ASIO compatible software such as Cubase VST. These particular ASIO drivers are for the Macintosh platform only. They have yet to announce any plans for a PC version.

I recently upgraded to a Mac Pro and have just installed Logic 8.0.2. I wanted to use a Digi 002 rack as my interface, but Logic does not offer it as a choice when I go to audio preferences > devices > core audio. I get 9 choices of devices, but they are all built-in. At first I thought I could install a Digidesign core audio driver and make the 002 show up. But I did not find any such driver available for download on the Digidesign site. Digidesign does say the new Mac Pros and OS 10.5.6 have been certified as compatible with Pro Tools 8 and the 002 rack.
Does this mean I need to buy Pro Tools 8, install it, and that's where I will get the driver that makes the 002 show up in Logic? Or another way of putting it, are you not able to use Digi hardware as your Logic interface unless you also have Pro Tools installed on your Mac?
Any advice much appreciated,
Jim

  • The Digi 002, as it's called, is not a 001 replacement: it costs significantly more, and 001 will continue to be manufactured. The new system, rather, provides a welcome extra tier in the Digi hierarchy, between the extremely affordable M Box and 001 and the multi-thousand-pound HD systems, as well as adding the option of dedicated hands-on.
